Asheville Jam Weekly Offerings
Saturday CI Skills Class & Jam
4 to 6pm at Haw Creek

Join us every Saturday at Haw Creek Commons in Asheville. Most Saturdays we offer an inquiry-based, all levels contact improvisation skills class followed by an open practice/jam session (unless otherwise noted on the calendar.) Teachers rotate weekly and classes focus on both foundational and intermediate skill development - all levels are welcome. Bring your questions, predicaments, successes and curiosities and join us in the dance!

Monday Mini-Workshop & Jam
6 to 8pm at Rotating Locations

On Mondays we host open jams accompanied by curated musical playlists. These jams begin with a facilitated 15 minute mini-workshop that flows into jamming. Start your week dancing! Mini-workshops are specifically focused on foundational skills in contact improvisation - all levels welcome.

Note: the Monday location rotates - on 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays of the month we meet at Haw Creek Commons ($5-10 sliding scale to cover rent). On 2nd and 4th Mondays we meet at Stephens-Lee (free).

2nd & 4th Monday Dance Theater Labs
6:45 to 8:30pm at Haw Creek

Welcome somatic movers, CI dancers, theater improvisers, dancers and performance artists! These lab sessions, hosted 2nd and 4th Mondays at Haw Creek Commons, offer a themed warm-up and move into playing and building improvisation skills through ‘structured scores’ or ‘practice labs’. Humor, poignancy, sculptural landscapes of instant choreography or wild storytelling! We move and we witness with plenty of time for each.

Each “lab” features a guest teacher offering a specific movement style. We’ve been inspired by perspectives of Authentic Movement, Barbara Dilly’s Contemplative Dance, Anatomical explorations, vocalization, compositional elements and more. Check the calendar to see what's happening this month.

Live Music Jams
Don't miss our dreamy live music jams! These are some of our favorite and most sensorially rich dancing experiences as we dance through and to soundscapes created in the moment and in response to the dancing by a live musician. Check the calendar or follow our Facebook page for updates on our next live music event.

The Underscore
We occasionally shift from open jamming to hosting an Underscore. If you don't know about the Underscore you can learn more here. If you've never done an Underscore (or if you would like the review) come early for the talk-through (required for first timers). Drop-in to this essential element of the CI tradition. Check the calendar or follow our Facebook page for updates on our next Underscore.
